How the checker decides
The checker compares your licence country and destination against the 1949 Geneva and 1968 Vienna road-traffic conventions, plus each country's own published rules for visiting drivers. Depending on the pair, it tells you whether you need an official International Driving Permit from your country's authorised issuer, whether a certified licence translation is enough or a useful companion, and what rental counters typically ask for. Where only an official IDP will do, we say so plainly and point you to the authorised issuer — we never sell IDPs, and no private company can.
