World Driving Permit

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers — especially about what we are not.

What we are — and what we are not

Is World Driving Permit a government agency?
No. We are a private service that translates and prepares driving-license documents for international travel. We do not issue International Driving Permits, driver licenses, or any government document — and no legitimate private website does.
Is your PDF an International Driving Permit?
No. Every document we generate is a translation companion: it helps people read your license, and it is not a substitute for an IDP or a license.
My destination requires an IDP. Can you sell me one?
No — and you should not buy one from anyone online except your country's authorized issuer (AAA/AATA in the US, national automobile associations elsewhere). We provide free guidance to the right issuer for your license country.
How do I spot fake-IDP scam sites?
Three red flags: the site isn't your government's authorized issuer; it sells multi-year 'international licenses' or instant digital 'permits'; it charges far more than the real ~$20–40 fee. The US FTC has published consumer alerts about these schemes.

Translations

What's included with the Digital translation?
Digital Pro is $49 and Digital + Print is $69 per document. You scan or upload your license, choose your tier, review every extracted field, choose any of 28 languages, and receive a certified translation PDF with a statement of accuracy, verification reference, and QR.
Which languages do you support?
28 target languages, including English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Arabic, Japanese, Thai, Hindi, Korean, Russian, and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional). Right-to-left languages render in the correct direction.
Will rental companies accept your translation?
Many rental desks find a clear translation helpful, and some destinations formally accept certified translations. But acceptance is always the destination's and company's decision — our requirement checker tells you when a translation helps and when only an official IDP will do.
Why is there a disclaimer on my PDF?
The disclaimer notice — which clarifies that the document is a translation companion and not a driving license — is permanent by design. It protects you: documents that pretend to be permits get travelers fined or detained. Certified translations carry the same labeling plus the translator's certificate.

Privacy & data

What happens to my uploaded license?
Source evidence is encrypted in transit and at rest in Cloudflare R2 when live storage is configured. It is used only to prepare or correct your watermarked translation pack, deleted automatically after 30 days where retention is not required, and deletable from your email-verified dashboard.
What data do you extract?
Only translation-relevant fields: name, license number, issuing country, dates, categories, and — when printed on the license — date of birth and address. You review and can correct every field before anything is generated.
Can I delete my source documents?
Yes. The dashboard has a one-click “Delete source uploads” action covering uploaded source files, extracted fields, and translation drafts. Order and payment records required for accounting remain, without source images attached.
Do I need a password to access my account?
No. Accounts use email magic links instead of passwords. The latest link replaces older unused links, sessions are stored in an HTTP-only cookie, and order downloads stay behind the email-verified dashboard.

Orders & refunds

What happens after payment?
The order flow is Payment captured → Upload documents → Review → Issue translation pack. You upload license front, license back, face photo, and holder confirmation after payment so reviewers can validate legibility, holder match, categories, and release boundaries before issue.
How fast are certified translations?
Digital packs are issued after the required documents pass reviewer validation. Digital + Print orders include the same issued PDF first, then the printed A4 translation pack ships with tracking.
What's your refund policy?
You can preview the document before paying. Paid certified orders are covered for 30 days: if something is wrong we correct and regenerate the pack for free, and if we can't fix it you get a full refund. Full details are in our refund policy.
